The need for Treatment- How Does it Really Start?
Treatment is a big concern in this country. If you wonder why we have such a problem with drugs or alcohol addiction and hundreds of thousands of people need drug addiction treatment just open up the paper and read about the latest news on false marketing by pharmaceutical companies. This is the main problem with addiction in this country and the world as a whole. Money talks which allows for false and misleading information about drugs and the effects they have so the masses can be enslaved to the whims of others for profit.
Drug Giant –Bristol Meyers Squibb Accused of Bribing Doctors to Prescribe
This caused California to now join a massive lawsuit claiming Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. bribed doctors to prescribe its drugs, costing insurers perhaps millions of dollars in the largest alleged health care fraud case ever handled by the state Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones announced Friday. You can see more about it here at the LA Times.
With this kind of misleading information about drugs being pumped out by profiteers and perpetuated by those we trust to care for us, getting real information on addiction and its causes looks like a pipe dream. The general public is all too ready to buy into the latest and greatest social malady i. e. depression, bi-polar, anxiety and the like to actually take a look at what actually causes these issues. All of these symptoms are present with drug or alcohol addiction, but of course ingesting toxic substances cause them, and on top of that no addict is going to feel good about their condition in life when struggling with addiction and in need of treatment.
Eliminating Conflicts of Interest
Eliminating the need for drug addiction treatment programs requires honest and factual information to be given and severe penalties given to those that betray our trust. It’s not the first time New York-based Bristol-Myers Squibb has been accused of kickbacks by its own workers. In 2007, the company agreed to pay $515 million to settle federal lawsuits brought by whistle-blowers in Massachusetts and Florida. The current lawsuit says the company tracked prescription figures, and low-prescribing doctors were threatened with loss of perks.
Treatment for Addictive Drugs… RX or not
Most any drug, legal or not, is extremely addictive. Some legal drugs are far more addictive than common illegal drugs of the past. For example, smoked methamphetamine and crack cocaine can be addictive after very short-term use. Ecstasy, a drug often used in dance clubs, can be highly addictive for some people. Some researchers were actually promoting this as a means to handle depression not too long ago! Marketing and profiteering like this leads many to think they can experiment with these drugs just a few times and then find, to their surprise that they can’t easily quit when they want to. One thing to remember is that every single illegal drug out there was at one time legal and promoted as the new miracle cure for some current problem. Once the addictive and dangerous qualities were realized they were then made illegal.
Help is Available
Realizing that some drugs are necessary and sometimes needed is important, but understanding that all drugs (and alcohol) are toxins that have more negative effects that positive is more important. Again sometimes drugs are needed, but if you do not have a good grasp of all the mental and physical effects they have on your state of mind, addiction is a strong possibility. If you suffer addiction and looking to find permanent addiction recovery methods, knowing all the effects created by drugs or alcohol is paramount. We cannot take things at face value, with lawsuits like this in existence its evident we need to be educated to avoid being taken advantage of.
