Addiction consequences are all too often completely out of the realm of normal every day thoughts and routines which make the war on drugs seem like a waste of time and money, particularly when drug abuse and addiction rates never seem to subside. Drug addiction treatment admissions never really decline, they seem to shift from one trend to another.
Addiction Consequences and Drug Strategy
Addiction consequences have involved some sort of substance addiction for years, and only in the last four decades of political leaders been able to capitalize on the so called “war on drugs” started with President Nixon four decades ago. Substance addiction has been an issue in one form or another for hundreds of years and its unfortunate society is not informed or aware enough that the human body is not immune to having impulses implanted into it as a result of consuming substances it was not designed to use as fuel. These substances are toxic and cause adverse effects to the body, and create impulses by the sheer nature of how they work. Effective drug addiction treatment involves a complete understanding and subsequent handling of all physiological and mental emotional issues concerning drug abuse and addiction.
The Need for Treatment
Many youth seem to ignore any possible addiction consequences that may loom in the future even now that the new generation has come along only now to start having problems with prescription drug addiction. It’s almost like there is this unseen force continually taking its turn at society with these hidden influences and creating the need for drug addiction treatment centers or mental health practice, not to mention the profit that can be reaped from any possible health addiction consequences.
In the Past…
In the sixties, substance addiction and or drug abuse and addiction seemed to consist of marijuana and psychedelics, the seventies brought in more of the same only to move into the crack cocaine era of the 80’s. Of course, geographical location is also influential in what drugs are abused, for example the east coast of the United States has always been overrun with heroin addicts needing drug addiction centers for opiate addiction. Many children seem to have the same attitude as decades old thoughts have always been concerning addiction consequences or the possible need for drug addiction centers.
A New Approach
President Obama seems to be taking a new approach per a press release sent out yesterday about the new drug control strategy that boosts community anti-drug campaigns, encourages health care providers to screen for drug problems before addiction sets in and expands treatment beyond specialty centers to mainstream health care facilities. He called the plan “a balanced approach to confronting the complex challenge of drug use and its consequences.
His drug czar, Gil Kerlikowski is quoted as stating “calling it a war on drugs really limits your resources, looking at this as both a public safety problem and a public health problem seems to make a lot more sense.” In the press release Mr. Kerlikoswki is critical of previous methods of measuring drug abuse and addiction trends.
