Addiction

Addiction to drugs and Alcohol has a wide range of components and just as many opinions on how to handle it. Drug Addiction can encompass heroin addiction, cocaine addiction, meth addiction, alcohol addiction and the ever increasing prescription drug addiction. These prescription drugs would include oxycontin, vicodin, and percaset. These drugs are opioid painkillers and the addiction to these is on the rise as stated earlier.

When a drug addict or alcoholic is afflicted with addiction, her or she will not be able to control themselves nor control their drug or alcohol use and will continue abusing the substances despite the damage done, not only to their lives but also their bodies.

Drug or alcohol addiction develops an irresistible desire to continue the abuse. The drug addicts or alcoholics may want to stop, and yet are unwilling to take the desired steps needed. The addict may want to quit, but most drug addicts or alcoholics find they can't do it on their own.

Drug Rehabilitation or alcohol Addiction Treatment is hopefully sought by family and or friends early on once the need for rehabilitation is recognized, as something terrible is likely to happen. If drug addiction is handled early the rigorousness of the Drug Abuse Treatment program is lessened.

Drug and Alcohol addiction- What is it?

The definition of drug addiction and/or alcohol addiction would include being abnormally tolerate to and dependent on drugs or alcohol, psychologically and physically. Someone might question drug or alcohol addiction and being abnormally tolerate, but when it comes these substances and physical affects drugs and alcohol have, the person needs more of the substance to create same desired effect, hence the tolerance description being included in the addiction definition.

The psychological aspect of drug and alcohol addiction is to a degree a physical addiction as well. Drugs and alcohol altar the normal function of the brain and creates a dependency to feel good. To addict the drugs or alcohol handle the emotional problem as he or she does not realize the mechanics behind chemical process of the brain that is directly tied to the emotions. Neurotransmitters are the chemicals in the brain that reward positive behavior. Unfortunately drugs and alcohol influence the release of these chemicals causing the person to feel good and depleting the supply the person has. This action greatly increases the risk of mental emotional problems associated with drug addiction or alcoholism such as depression, anxiety and mood swings. This is not to mention the demoralizing behavior brought on by the substance abuse and the original problem that was attempted to be solved by using drugs or alcohol in the first place.
Drug and alcohol abuse and addiction creates nutritional deficiencies that cause the body to act abnormally and the drug addict or alcoholic’s body adjusts accordingly. This is where the physical addiction to drugs and alcohol begins. Since the addict feels worse and often has poor eating habits restoring these nutritional problems greatly diminish the chance the drug addict or alcoholic will seek addiction Treatment as the easiest way to handle this sick feeling is simply to do more drugs. Drug Treatment is foreign to the addict as the only way he or she knows how to feel better or to keep from suffering withdrawal is to keep using and prolong the addiction.

In dealing with addiction one should understand drug and alcohol substances are recognized by the body as toxins as well and handled accordingly. These drug and alcohol toxins are metabolized and designed to be filtered out via the liver and kidneys. During this process the toxin is transformed into a fat bonding substance that can stay in the body for an undetermined length of time causing later cravings for the drug.  As the addict attempts sobriety this hampers Addiction Recovery as the drug or alcohol toxins continue to burn up valuable nutrients and every time the addict exerts himself he releases the toxins back to the blood stream by way of burnt up fat. The toxic substance then goes to the brain sending impulses that cause uncontrollable cravings.

Addiction Recovery in a Drug Rehab or Alcohol Rehab

Treatment Centers should handle all of the above issues when dealing with drug or alcohol addiction. A Substance Abuse treatment program should be substantial in length and again should address all the barriers that would hinder total and complete drug addiction or alcohol addiction recovery. A Treatment Center specific to alcohol and Alcohol Rehabilitation should also have access to a qualified medical detox facility prior to the destined Rehab program. This approach also includes addiction to benzodiazepines and substance abuse treatment in a drug rehab.
