A Second Chance?Posted by addiction writer in Untagged |
|
I have been clean from drugs and alcohol for four years almost five. During the time that I first decided to get help I had been apart of a reverse sting operation which ultimately made me realize that I needed help for my addiction. I went through rehab on my own after I was released from police custody and began to get my life back together.
I recently found out that I still had outstanding warrants for drug trafficking and so I decided to do the right thing and turn myself in to handle the situation. I am currently facing charges for trafficking drugs and I feel confused about the way the legal system works. I had never been into trouble before in my life nor have I been in trouble since and now I am doing the right things and helping others who suffer from addiction. I am an addiction counselor and I have dedicated my life to helping others. I just wonder how my situation will turn out compared to many others who are repeat offenders and have still not learned anything from their mistakes?
I believe in second chances and I think everyone should get a shot at making up the damage they caused, which is what I am doing and will continue to do. So I guess my question is, would it be fair of the DA to put me in prison? Or, would it be in the best interest of the community for me to be allowed to continue to help others like I have been doing for the past four years since I was addicted and got into trouble? I'm not sure what is going to happen but, if I do end up in prison I will continue to use the knowledge I have and help those who need me no matter where I am. At least now I can offer real solutions for people who are in need. Addiction is not a disease and it can be solved! I know because I was an addict once and I did a lot of stupid things during that time in my life.
Today, I am no longer consumed by addiction or the lifestyle that comes along with it. Today, I am a happy productive member of my community and I have a purpose and that purpose is to help people overcome addiction and life a happy drug free life. If you are struggling please feel free to comment and I'll help or call the 1-866 number at the top and speak to one of the counselors at AddictionWatch. Getting help isn't always an easy step for addicts to reach for but once you do life will get better and you will be free from the chains of addiction. Even though I have all this legal stuff popping up from my past I feel good about myself and what I'm doing with my life. I know that no matter what happens I can make a difference and help people who are in need and I can do that from anywhere on the planet.
