Underage drinking in a United States that resulted in traffic fatalities, violence, pregnancies, crime, burns and drownings cost local residents and businesses $68 billion for medical procedures, work loss, pain and suffering in 2007, according to a federally funded study. These numbers include substance abuse treatment and drug rehabilitation.

If you don’t think its all about the money when it comes to prescription drugs and prescription drug addiction please think again. “Health care” giant Johnson and Johnson has allegedly been paying kickbacks to those who will push the powerful antipsychotic to the elderly. It’s so maddening to see these things happen right in front of our face and wonder how the hell we can victim to it. Do you have a loved one in a nursing home? 38 people arrested in Washington area drug dealing ring…..  

It is nightmare on Elm street for many Washington suburban families as The Washington Post reported nearly 40 people have been arrested across Northern Virginia this week on charges of dealing heroin and prescription drugs as part of a large-scale investigation to battle what officials said is a dramatic increase in drug use and addiction among young people in the Washington suburbs.

I have been clean from drugs and alcohol for four years almost five. During the time that I first decided to get help I had been apart of a reverse sting operation which ultimately made me realize that I needed help for my addiction.  I went through rehab on my own after I was released from police custody and began to get my life back together.

As the senate and house representatives finalize what many consider to be the largest effort in history to turn around a failing economy I hope portions of their proposed relief will be designated to help those 30 plus million Americans who are addicted to drugs and alcohol. These addicted citizens are sons and daughters of our nation as well as potential bread winners and societal contributors if they recover from their addiction. At present these individuals represent major expenditures on state mandated programs that don't work, incarceration expenses that are astronomical and welfare expenses that boggle the mind.
