The Need for Rehab Programs

A recent interim report from the Broward County (Florida) Grand Jury reveals that prescription drug abuse in Florida is on the rise. “Pill mills’ otherwise known as pain management clinics are thought to be nothing more than legal drug pushers. Addiction Recovery houses and rehab programs in Canada and across the US are solicited with kickbacks for those tenants needing methadone or suboxone maintenance drugs.

Drug rehabs across the country are reporting an increase in admissions for prescription drug addiction. Typically, a person becomes addicted to prescription painkillers while recovering from an injury or operation. Still others find themselves addicted after experimenting prescriptions of friends or family members as an attempt to get high.

When a drug addict finally admits he or she has a  drug problem, whether it’s with prescription drugs, alcohol or illegal substances, the next step is to find help from a qualified, proven drug rehab center. Rehab choices across the country are plentiful. There are as many types of rehab programs as there are rehabs. The difficulty comes when searching for the program to handle a particular addiction.

Every substance abuse problem is unique, just as every person is unique. However the mechanics of addiction are similar in nature and require effort to confront the underlying problem driving the addiction. Effective drug and alcohol rehab only occurs when the facility is truly equipped to expertly guide the addict from addiction to drug-free livings. The self respect and self determinism of drug or alcohol addict, once restored causes the person to no longer need the affects the drug or alcohol provide. He has, for himself, determined his purpose in life and can set a direction towards happiness once complete rehabilitation has occurred. This does not necessarily mean the former drug or alcohol addict will be saddled with addiction the remainder of his or her life. Drug or alcohol addiction can be overcome in the right rehab center.

There are many leading rehab centers across the country that offer  offers highly personalized drug rehab services at varying prices. What sets the more successful rehab centers apart from others is the length of time and type of treatment. Holistic rehab programs have the higher success rates but can be misleading.

Holistic means to treat the whole person, not just the psychological side of addiction. Rehab programs that rehabilitate the nutritional deficiencies, remove toxins that cause drug cravings and then deal with the underlying issues without the use of replacement drugs are truly holistic rehab programs.

Many holistic treatment rehab programs propose the person should be treated as a whole by way of the drug therapist and psychiatrist meeting at the same time to formulate a rehab strategy. This does nothing for the physical damage done by the substances abused. Many Rehab programs offer a wide variety of services that do not necessarily contribute the rehabilitation of the drug or alcohol addict. Yacht rides, maids and chefs, are nice but do come with a price tag.

Rehab programs that deliver life skills courses that many addicts lack or have forgotten help drastically. These skills are frequently what could have prevented addiction to substance abuse in the first place. Graduates of the program routinely report increased self-esteem and great pride in having new coping skills they can use throughout their life. Maids and Chefs do not fit in these type rehab programs.
