Drug Abuse Treatment

There are millions of people out there needing drug abuse treatment in the United States.
Going through the process of finding drug rehab or alcohol rehab help can be confusing and complicated. Literally thousands of alcohol and drug abuse treatment programs with each one offering a variety of treatment center options make this an overwhelming task. On top of that the many addiction counselors employed will each have their own opinion of how each drug abuse treatment program should operate.

People often have the idea substance abuse and drug addiction is matter of choice and any addict should be able to stop at will. While this is true for some, others prove this theory and thought process incorrect. Keeping this in mind if people understood what drugs and alcohol do to the mind and body they would have a different opinion. This is one of the largest justifications for families being unwilling to pay for drug abuse treatment. They feel if the person addicted really wanted to stop they would. In an attempt to explain this process or possibly deceive the public mental health professionals have labeled drug addiction as a disease. Most people can identify with that school of thought, the problem with this it is misleading and often demoralizing, causing the drug addict or alcoholic to feel like drug abuse treatment is a waste of time.

However many people clinging to the old school of thought that you should be able to walk away from drug or alcohol addiction at the drop of a hat do not really understand all that is involved with addiction. Drug abuse treatment and the need for it, is more involved than meets the eye. If someone had a liver problem or heart problem or what have you, it would be a real issue and dealt with accordingly. This leads us to the physical and mental issues surrounding drug addiction and alcoholism.

Obviously when the drug addict or alcoholic made the decision to use drug or alcohol and did not recognize it as a problem it was his or her choice. As the substance abuse continues there are changes in the way the brain and body react that cause a huge addiction and is directly tied to emotions and thought processes. These changes make drug addiction or alcoholism inevitable and the need for drug abuse treatment more than obvious.

Drug abuse treatment should involve many aspects of rehabilitation to successfully help someone overcome an addiction to drugs or alcohol.  There is a huge physical addiction that directly plays a part in drug cravings and altars the emotional stability of the addict.

When any of the famous celebrities were thought to have died from drug use, one of the first things the medical examiner examined was the toxicity level or residual of any drugs (toxins) still evident in the body. This tells us drugs are basically poisons and recognized by the body as such. Since drugs are recognized by the body as toxins and treated as such they can be stored in the tissues of the body for an uncertain length of time. These poisons can then be let back into the blood stream causing depression, anxiety and the craving to use drugs or alcohol all over again.

In the past drug abuse treatment is looked on by many as socially unacceptable. It is true that degrading and demoralizing behavior often results from drug or alcohol use that person once known as your son or daughter is still there. Confusing the problems involved with addiction is that addiction counselors falsely claim drug addiction is a brain disease. It is true every kind of drug of abuse has its own method of changing brain functions but most these can be corrected naturally in about 90 to 100 days without the use of more drugs. A 90 day drug abuse treatment program that has a natural holistic approach to drug rehabilitation gains the highest success rates.

As stated earlier drug and alcohol abuse, regardless of an addict is addicted to, affects the brain functions. This makes the addict unable to make rational decisions and deciding on drug abuse treatment impossible. And these changes have a huge influence on all aspects of a person's behavior. The drug becomes the single most powerful motivator in a drug abuser's existence. The drug addict or alcoholic will do almost anything for the drug making drug abuse treatment or drug rehabilitation imperative.

When a drug addict or alcoholic seeks drug abuse treatment it’s usually as a result of something happening that’s actually worse than not getting high would be. There are methods that work to help convince the addict he or she has to get help, that’s where friends and family step in and draw the line.

Drug abuse treatment can be a one-time stint if you locate a drug rehab or alcohol rehab program which handles the physical issues and mental emotional issues involved with drug addiction and alcoholism. Many substance abuse treatment programs and addiction counselors feel that relapse is part of recovery. This is not necessarily the case if the right drug abuse treatment program is found.
