Is Amanda Bynes Suffering from Drug Addiction
Amanda Bynes has been under fire from the media for months now over suspected drug abuse. According to reports from TMZ, Byne’s recent arrests and apparent public substance abuse has many worried that she may be mentally ill.
On September 15th, TMZ reporters noted several witnesses claimed seeing the actress in her car alone, eating tacos and smoking what appeared to be marijuana from a pipe. Further, she was seen talking to herself and laughing hysterically before driving around Los Angeles for several hours despite a suspended license.
In 2005, US government substance abuse experts presented study findings that pointed to marijuana as a catalyst for mental illness. The study was brushed off by pro-marijuana activists who thought it was full of bias and false information. In addition to this, the advent of synthetic marijuana (also called K2, Spice, Herbal Incense, etc.) has produced reports of users who say the high is unstable and mentally disturbing.
Despite opinions to the contrary, scientific evidence abounds in the medical community to support marijuana’s negative effects on the mind. Harvard Health stated in a 2011 article that marijuana held a definite link with young marijuana consumers and later-life schizophrenia, depression and psychosis.
Amanda Bynes Future
While it is not known whether or not Amanda Bynes is struggling with mental illness of any kind, it is positive that she is going through a tough time in her life. Drug use is highly suspected to be involved.
Further, Bynes has no entertainment jobs on the horizon. At age 24 she announced she was retiring, stating that acting was no longer enjoyable to her. The actress, who will be 26 this coming April, clearly needs to be given space from the media and time for a full recovery that includes drug rehabilitation to get through this difficult time in her life.
