Most of these started out delivering with alcohol abuse treatment and use the twelve step philosophy along with a psychiatric approach that is meant do deal with underlying mental emotional issues.

Now we have the negative effects of the newly added drugs to contend with and no real solution for the original substance abuse problem.

Many of these substance abuse treatment centers will tell you upon entering the facility that relapse is part of recovery and often the addiction counselors have a somewhat apathetic attitude regarding the success of any addiction treatment program. You can find substance abuse treatment programs that use other methodologies and methods that have much higher success than the programs listed in the database provided for by the substance abuse and mental health administration. The kind of substance abuse treatment programs funded via these state and federal agencies are medically oriented and promote the use of more drugs as therapy and can lead to further problems.

For example, many substance abuse treatment centers use methadone and antidepressants which are as addictive as or more addictive than drugs like heroin, oxycontin and other opioid type drugs.
