False Hope in Treatment for Methamphetamine Addiction

The search for methamphetamine treatment has long been ongoing since the first scourge of meth use began to rise back in the 80’s. New studies by pharmacology colleges are promoting the use of new drug that supposedly curbs the cravings for meth; these studies are obviously funded by the pharmaceutical industries that stand to profit from drug sales.

If previous experience holds true evidence of harmful side effects of these drugs will be suppressed only to surface later after millions, possibly billions of dollars have been made. All the while offering hope to those who suffer methamphetamine Addiction and being led down a path of further pain and hopelessness.

Further news regarding the need for meth effective Addiction Treatment report meth labs are on the rise again in Oklahoma as seen in recent articles on the NewsOK.com. “Only rumors hint at the origins of a recipe poisoning Oklahomans. Some credit a college chemistry student paid to perfect the process. Others say incarcerated drug cooks created a new method. However it came about, the "one-pot” or "shake and bake” process of cooking methamphetamine is spreading. By May's end, law enforcement officers reported seizing nearly 300 meth labs, putting the state on track to exceed the 743 labs found in 2009, data from the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Control shows. The majority of the labs seized now are one-pot labs, said Darrell Weaver, executive director of the bureau. Most are located in northeast Oklahoma and around the Tulsa area. Bureau records show in May law enforcement officers in Oklahoma City seized a single one-pot lab while their counterparts in Tulsa found 23”.

The efforts made by Oklahoma law enforcement officials and law makers are valiant and apparently effective based on statistics. I can only hope the methamphetamine addiction Treatment trend follows suit for effective practices which does not include replacement drugs. There are drug rehab centers that provide effective treatment but they are long term, are hard work and take the ability to confront addiction, which is what most people don’t want to do. As someone who has overcame a 15 year addiction to meth and was involved with meth cooks all over southern Oklahoma, I know it can be done but it takes hard work to do it.
